Three-peak route (Eisenhut, Straßburger Spitz, and Wintertalernock)
The name Eisenhut is derived from iron mining that was once conducted here. Traces of this time can still be found today – for example, in the Montan Museum in Turrach, which recalls the mining history of the region.
The Nock Mountains are a landscape for deep breaths: gentle summits instead of rugged peaks, fragrant forests, and alpine pastures that delight with their variety of blossoms in summer. Those who explore here find distance from everyday life and experience the mountains in their quiet, unspoiled form.

From the hut, follow the forest road for a longer time – first a short stretch downhill over a small stream, then uphill again. In a curve, where another stream flows downhill, the hiking trail branches off to the left into the forest. The marking is easy to overlook if the grass is higher. Just below the tree line, you reach an alpine pasture where there is a distinctive hunting stand. Here, the path joins the Carinthian border trail 151 (1,945 m). Follow this over an alpine meadow to the Rapitz saddle (2,088 m). The trail markings are not always immediately visible, but the saddle is hard to miss.
At the saddle, keep left and take the lower of the two trails leading to the Eisenhut summit (2,441 m). After the summit ascent, follow the ascent route back a short way to the first crossroads. A sign points the way to Wintertalernock. The hiking trail 129 runs along the ridge and offers a wonderful view of the Styrian side. With slight ups and downs, you reach the Straßburger Spitz (2,404 m). From the summit, you can already see the next destination northeast: the Wintertalernock (2,394 m), which is accessible via an easy ridge.
Afterwards, return to Straßburger Spitz and descend directly to the Rapitz saddle (2,088 m) via hiking trail 156. From here, follow the known ascent route back to the starting point.
