Scenic classic ridge route of the Alps: the Watzmann crossing
Mountaineering for advanced hikers: When the Watzmann calls, it means "Put on your hiking boots and go!":
At 2713 m, the Watzmann is one of Germany's highest mountains after the Zugspitze and Hochwanner, yet hardly any other peak is surrounded by as many legends and myths. Those who dare the demanding crossing of the three main peaks (Hocheck, Middle, and South Peak) of the Watzmann will be rewarded with a breathtaking mountain panorama and deep views over the famous Watzmann East Wall down to the Königssee and the picturesque chapel of St. Bartholomew. This route is rightly considered the king route of the Berchtesgaden Alps. Fit hikers can complete the mountain tour in one day, but most ascend to the Watzmannhaus on the first day and start the crossing the next day. Those who prefer to take it easier can spend the night in the Wimbachgrieshütte after the descent and hike back to the Wimbachklamm in 2-3 hours the next morning.
