We hike past rustic old mountain farmsteads on the Ultener Höfeweg. The weathered shingle roofs and dark wooden beams of the farmsteads are today witnesses to an old, agriculturally shaped culture.
The Ultener Höfeweg leads us from St. Nikolaus in the Ultental to the Edelweiß guesthouse below St. Gertraud. While we pass numerous ancient mountain farmsteads, we can get an impression of the old rural culture in the idyllic Ultental. In addition to a distinctive cultural landscape, we also pass a very special natural monument, namely the ancient larches. The age of these giant trees is estimated to be around 2000 years. Meanwhile, the Ultener ancient larches are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Passing the Klapfberg waterfalls, we finally return to St. Nikolaus.
