A demanding mountain route takes us via the Taufenscharte and Hochgangscharte around the Große Rötelspitze and to the largest alpine lake group in South Tyrol, the Spronser Lakes.

This demanding route begins at the mountain station of the adventurous Vellau basket lift, which starts from Algund. At the Leiteralm, we follow the Meraner Höhenweg and shortly afterwards turn off towards the Taufenscharte. There, after a long, very steep ascent, we are rewarded with a magnificent panorama. Over rocky terrain, passing the Pfitscher Lacke and Kaser Lacke, we reach the managed Alpine pasture Oberkaser, located in the middle of the Spronser Lakes plateau. This is the largest high-alpine lake group in South Tyrol, formed by glacier movements. Along the Grünsee and Langsee, we hike towards the Hochgangscharte. From here, a demanding section begins, where good safety measures help over exposed areas and rock ledges. Over steep meadows, we then reach the rustic Hochganghaus, inviting for a rest. The Meraner Höhenweg then leads us back to the Leiteralm. After a break, we take the basket lift back down to the valley.
