From the Oberkaser Alm, climb steeply up to the Grünsee lake, then along the Langsee lake. The route continues uphill to the two Milchsee lakes, where the via ferrata to the Milchseescharte begins after crossing the connecting stream. The route continues downhill towards Halsljoch and then climbs back up from the valley floor. After crossing the Halsljoch, the route only descends, often quite steeply, to the Lodnerhütte. From the Lodnerhütte, the route again descends quite steeply in places, interrupted by a short climb, to the Nasereith Hütte.

    Safety information

The 100 metre section to the Milchseescharte is a via ferrata (B). For weaker walkers, it is advisable to use at least a rep cord as a chest harness with a carabiner.

    Roadbook

From the Oberkaser Hütte hut, the trail climbs steeply westwards along a path paved with rock slabs, then a little higher past the ruins of the Meraner Hütte hut, then a little steeper again to the Grünsee lake (it gets its colour from the green vegetation around it, which is reflected in the water).

At the outlet of the Grünsee, the path turns left and after a few metres in altitude you reach the Langsee. Continue along the northern shore until you reach a junction on the right up to the Milchsee lakes (signpost). On the south side along the small Milchsee lake, then across the stream connecting the two Milchseen lakes and now steeply up via a via ferrata (B) to the Milchseescharte (2707 m). To the right of the saddle is the Biv. Guido Lammer.

The route continues to the right up through the rocks, then turns downhill over boulders into a hollow below the Tschigat, before climbing back up to the Halsljoch (2808 m). (In August 2015 there was a closed snow cover from the Milchscharte to the Halsljoch, the path was only recognisable by the tracks of previous hikers).

From the Halsljoch, the trail descends steeply over scree to the two Tablander Lacken, past them and further steeply down to behind and then briefly up to the Lodnerhütte/Rif. Cima Fiammante (2262 m).

From the Lodnerhütte out of the valley past the Zielalm. Then on a path partly paved with large stones downhill past the Gingglalm, further up a small ascent, finally in a large curve, past the Schrambach waterfall, in many hairpin bends down to the Nasereit hut (1523 m).

The next day, the route then descends for about 1 hour to the Parcines waterfall. From here, take the bus via Partschins, Meran, Dorf Tirol to the car park at the Hochmuthbahn cable car.
