Tips and suggestions
Best in early spring, when there is only a little snow left and before thorn bushes etc. have sprouted. Also before the winter season after the first frosts.Roadbook
Directions: See also detailed "Time-Altitude Chart in the image gallery".
ASCENT: From the parking lot (900 m) shortly on the Güterweg to the sign (Rieser 910 m), turn left and immediately right to ascend on Pfarrerweg No. 5. In the mixed forest at about 985 m, go over the forest road and to the signpost at 1010 m. Continue straight on the lower path, at around 1,100 m there is a distinctive rock on the left, viewpoint.
We continue ascending, reach a clearing and the fork (Rieser Alm) with a sign at 1270 m. Now in the middle between the forest roads, so straight (stone cairns) into the forest and follow the usually clear trail marks. Straight up the ridge at about 1355 m, we come to a kind of loop with a small hut. We cross the forest road, then continue without markings on the ridge along the trail to the high point at about 1475 m, good view. Shortly down (1460 m) over the forest road and finally up to the beautiful wooden summit cross of Tamberg 1516 m. There we enjoy the magnificent view. (635 m elevation gain and fairly brisk 1 1/4 hours, pure hikers are content with this summit goal).
Mountaineers and individualists descend a few meters to the left, thus westward, because you cannot continue from the cross on the ridge as it is overgrown. Immediately cross right and follow the trail back to the north ridge (~1490 m). Just left below the ridge descend without a path, a few small cairns and trail traces help further. Then again almost on the ridge always left of the escarpment edge down to the saddle at about 1400 m. The north summit is clearly visible ahead, it is reforested here and currently (2022) offers a good view to the Priel range. Over some dead trees, we ascend again left of the ridge edge until we reach the Jagagipfel (1502 m) of Tamberg. It is shared with chamois, a bench and a cross show us that hunters also like to sit here. 740 m elevation gain from the Rieser parking lot and almost 1 3/4 hours fast.
DESCENT: The same way back to the main Tamberg summit (1516 m). At the forest road (~1460 m) we follow it keeping right, saving ourselves the high point and coming to the small hut (1355 m) where we just passed on the ascent. Down the ascent path to the sign at Rieser Alm 1270 m. Now go a few meters further and take right, the marked upper alpine path. It should not be wet or icy here. The often narrow trail runs right past a rock, with a small counter ascent, soon we then see the Spitzmäuerl (~1085 m) appear. Pass right, then steeply left up, a short steel cable and to the viewing bench. The altitude 1100 m is probably rounded up.
Back and left down the narrow path to the fork at 1010 m, where we went straight on the lower path on the ascent. Turn left, over the forest road in the mixed forest to the sign (Pfarrerweg 5) with spring and right to the parking lot at about 900 m. 140 m elevation loss and 1 1/4 hours from the north summit.
Total: 880 m elevation gain, almost 3 hours at approx. 7.1 km length.
Spitzmäuerl 1.100m
Directions
On the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) to the Hinterstoder exit, turn south towards Hinterstoder, before the village turn left to Vorderstoder and about 200 m after the church turn left again (Güterweg). At the end turn right ~200 m up the Güterweg Rieser to the parking lots.Parking
Marked parking lot before the last hairpin. Fee required (as of 2023).
Presumably a new parking strip, not yet signed, about 100 m long on the left side of the road before the trailhead from approx. 900 m to 910 m (Rieser sign).
