Roadbook
We start at the Hofalmen and hike the well-developed path over the larch-covered steep step up to the Hofpürgl hut in just under an hour. Shortly before the hut, we turn right onto the Linzersteig. We descend with a slight slope into the Kesselboden between Bischofsmütze and Armkarwand. Beyond that, a larch slope is ascended to the trail junction. We leave the Linzersteig to the left and cross the scree cirque on an easy hiking path. The wide path now winds west of the Steiglkogel over several rock steps up to the Steiglpass. The exposed rock sections are secured with ropes.
At Steiglpass, we turn right off the well-marked path and hike on a narrow, sandy path on the north flank of the west ridge to the already visible ascent gully. Along the way, three eroded steep gullies (long filled with snow into the summer) are crossed on narrow footholds. The wide steep gully is first climbed centrally in the scree in short switchbacks, then on the right the grassy steep ridge is chosen. When the foot of the west ridge rock is reached, the brittle gully (rope secured) is crossed left up to under the Eisgrubenturm. Along the base of the rock, it goes partly rope-secured very exposed on brittle rock and steep grass up to the green north notch. The short climbing begins with a traverse on the very brittle rock of the east flank, where an old, not optimally anchored steel cable provides some security. We reach a chimney-like rock gorge, which we follow right upwards. We either climb rope-secured in the narrow chimney or firmly via the stepped rock ramp just right of it up to the narrow ridge edge. Behind it, we briefly follow the brittle ridge to the left and reach the steep summit meadow. Well-stepped grass stairs or a crumbly path lead quite steeply southwards to the small summit knoll with a beech tree. Fantastic view towards the Gosaukamm and the Gosau flank of the Dachstein.
