High peak in the east of the Rieserferner Group
Start from Sand in Taufers to the valley floor of Rein and turn right through the Bachertal valley to the Jausenstation Säge (1580 m, car park). From there, follow the signs to the "Kasseler Hütte" and trail no. 8 to the bridge over the Talbach stream, up the steep forest trail to the Eppacher Alm and the wide trail no. 1 and on this trail across open slopes up to the Kasseler Hütte (2276 m; summer catering, 70 sleeping places; from Rein 2:30 hrs); overnight here. - From the refuge, follow the Arthur Hartdegen trail marked No. 8 below the Rieserferner and Hochgall, almost level over extensive moraine terrain and then round the rocky flanks of the Riesernock (holding ropes in exposed places) to the trail junction near a small lake opposite the Ursprungalm (2350 m; from the refuge a good 1:30 hrs). Now take the summit trail (still marked 8), which starts on the right, and follow the mostly good path through rocky grassy slopes and over boulders for a long way up. Shortly before reaching
