A demanding hike, partly overgrown with greenery in the lower section, which makes navigation somewhat exciting. The most difficult part is a slippery, about 4-meter-high rock wall secured with a chain, on August 12, 2018.

It is a lonely, hardly frequented unmarked route to the much frequented Wachthüttelkamm, which is also occasionally used by experienced and secure hikers as a downhill path.

The rock wall cannot be bypassed.Roadbook
At the Hochstegbrücke over the Eisentor towards the memorial plaque. The meadow there was nicely mowed every time I went. Then follows the actual Staudengraben, which is more or less overgrown depending on the season. Soon you stand in front of the mossy and green-covered, slippery rock wall. Climb this with the help of a chain; it is not very difficult, but steep, continuing until a wooded area. From there go up and in the left-hand gully to the rock walls, which are to be crossed to the right. Above the crossing, you encounter a distinct path that first follows the left side of the Staudengraben. Where the path leads to the right to the hunting stand and the hunting hut, it is also possible to easily get to the left onto the Schlageck of the Jägerdriegel, which I describe in another description. The crossing to the right leads up to the upper ridge spur of the Kornbrandmauer. From there, head left along the ridge partly following an old cable car rope to the hunting stand with the inviting hunting hut for a rest. From this a clearly visible continuation path leads not steeply upwards and merges into the already flat part of the Wachthüttelkamm. Those who descend the first part of the Wachthüttelkamm can also decide to go down the Staudengraben there. You just have to be careful to find the unmarked turnoff. Best use the attached GPX track here. Follow the Wachthüttelkamm past the exit of the Akademikersteig, SW 2 (a recommended, unsecured ascent to the Wachthüttelkamm from the Große Höllental for experienced climbers) down the ladders to the road. Then walk or hitchhike back to the Hochstegbrücke. I also attached a map under the pictures, on which I have inserted the 3 routes made in the last days. All are published in Alpenvereinaktiv.
