A hike from Steg in Liechtenstein along the Samina across the border to Amerlügen, on long stretches far away from all traces of civilization

Long hike through the lonely valley of the Samina with a well-developed and marked path, which is however suspended and secured by cables in some places. Surefootedness and careful walking are essential in some places. After crossing the border and the waterfall, the path in Vorarlberg is developed as a forest road
Author’s recommendation
There are no places to eat along the entire route. Even in Amerlügen and Fellengatter there are no restaurants. For dining, only the Maria Grün restaurant in Mariagrüner Strasse in Letzte near the Buddhist monastery complex is recommended. (In Fellengatter, once you are on Letzte Strasse, turn right into Weiherstrasse. From there you come to Mariagrüner Strasse)

Safety information
Before a storm in 1995, the path ran mostly on the right side of the Samina. After the path was destroyed, it was relocated to the left riverbank and bypasses steep rock faces with constant ups and downs. The path should not be used in rain or shortly after heavy rains.Tips and suggestions

Roadbook
After getting off the bus at the "Tunnel Steg" stop, we walk back towards the tunnel, over the bridge and then left along the Samina, which here is still the Stägerbach (it only becomes the Samina after merging with the Valorschbach at Ölerschegg) and walk on a comfortable forest road to an alp, where it is marked to the right down to the river. Then continue well marked on the path. We have to cross some rockfall and avalanche channels. Some streams as well, but they are easy to cross. For relaxation, the path repeatedly goes close to the river through small floodplain forests before it goes steeply uphill and down again around steep rock faces. After crossing the debris slope of the Branntawintobel, it goes along the river over a small wooden footbridge. On the upper left, the rock formation of the 3 Sisters appears at some point, while in the north direction we can see the high peaks. Then we reach the border crossing between Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg. Shortly after, the waterfall at Falleck, where we cross the Samina for the first time. Here the valley has clearly widened. The hiking trail has become a forest road. On it, we head downstream. We cross the Samina 3 more times and then climb again comfortably on the left riverbank about 1 hour up to Amerlügen. The view from this mountain terrace is magnificent. Then continue via Fellengatter past the listed chapel of Mariaebene. After reaching the Letzte Strasse, we stay on it until we reach Tisis, where we arrive exactly above the church, our starting point.
