Start at the Gaisalpe parking lot and follow the trail through the Gaisalptobel, Gaisalpe, Lower Gaisalpsee, and Eischartung, coming from the Niederecksattel summit
There are two parking lots at Gaisalpe in Reichenbach. One is located to the left before entering the village. Payment at this lot is only accepted starting at 8 a.m. using coins or a debit card. A day pass costs 5 euros. The other is located to the left as you go up into the village. Parking reservations can be made from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. using coins or an EC card for a 5-euro day pass. The ascent goes through Gaisalptobel and past Gaisalpe toward Schnippenkopf. The trail then winds through the forest and over roots in a right-hand curve and becomes rockier. We cross a small stream along the rock face and hike steeply uphill to the lower Gaisalpsee. Here, take the trail down to the left toward the lake, then hike steeply uphill with careful footing until you reach the marker with red dots. Turn right here and do not continue straight ahead, as that path leads nowhere. Concentrating on the gravelly terrain, we climb carefully—taking care not to dislodge any rocks—into the saddle where the trail from the Niederecksattel joins from the left. We continue to the right and soon follow the new trail steeply upward to the right until we reach solid rock. With the aid of wire ropes, we proceed to the summit ridge and then to the left toward the cross. The descent follows the same route as the ascent, except for the detour to the lower Richtalpe.
