Challenging mountain route to the second highest peak of the Lechquellen Mountains (T5).
The Rote Wand is one of the most prominent mountain features in Vorarlberg. The massive free-standing block towers 2,704 m above the surrounding area. The name Rote Wand comes from the reddish Liassic limestone deposits in the south face. On the north flank, one of the northernmost glaciers of the northern Alps still exists. For a high mountain tour, the glacier has now melted back too much, which is why the ascent now takes place via the north ridge. The ridge is brittle and exposed and only recommended for experienced climbers. Those who feel up to the challenge will be rewarded with views of many important Eastern Alpine peaks and a deep view of the turquoise-blue Formarinsee.
