Safety information
Between the Nördlinger Hut and Reither Spitze, some sections with safety installations but not particularly exposed scrambling sections must be passed: surefootedness is advised here.
After the descent, the Seefeld federal road must be crossed. It is essential to pay careful attention to the sometimes very fast traffic!
Roadbook
From the station in Reith, follow the Roman road into the town center. Turn left at the church and go steeply uphill. At the first junction, go right; at the second, go left. The path then becomes steeper and leads directly to a large property. This is circled counterclockwise, and soon the incline also lessens somewhat. After crossing a service road, the wide path continues mainly northwards, then turns right and rises noticeably again in countless switchbacks. Soon a forest road is reached, which leads left for a short time. Somewhat inconspicuously but signposted, a path branches sharply off to the right and rises again with many switchbacks. Finally, the incline decreases and the path passes the Rauenkopf without major changes in elevation. Slightly descending, the Schartlehnerhaus is reached. Although this former mountain inn has been closed for many years, a bench in front invites you to bask in the morning sun and rest your legs.
The further ascent to the Nördlinger Hut continues along a path that first goes through dwarf pines and later through more open terrain, following the ridge easily. The view widens with almost every step until the path bends right and the Nördlinger Hut becomes visible for the first time, located just below the summit destination. On the way to the hut, a junction is passed where later the descent path to Seefeld will be. Behind the Nördlinger Hut, a path continues quickly to the rocky summit structure of Reither Spitze. With the help of some safety installations, a light scramble, interspersed again and again with walking sections, easily leads to the highest point.
After the well-deserved and scenic summit break, the descent first leads back to the Nördlinger Hut and then to the known junction from the ascent: here turn right downhill towards Seefeld. Soon the path branches; the left fork continues downhill. After a while, the path steadily moves right and crosses a stream. Then it goes downhill increasingly gently until the path flows into a forest road and then passes a terrain cleft. Shortly after, the junction to the Reither Joch Alm is passed; a path branches off to the left there. This leads downhill quickly once again and, almost near the valley, turns into a service road. Shortly thereafter, a forest road crosses; turn left there and continue to a paved road. Follow this to the right to the intersection with the Seefeld federal road, which must be crossed carefully. On the other side, a path continues right, initially parallel to the road. This passes a small lake, reaches the outskirts of Seefeld, and turns into the Römerweg. At a roundabout, turn left into Reitherspitzstraße and follow it to the railway crossing. From there, the individual platforms are directly accessible; alternatively, go right behind the railway crossing to the station square.
