The Einstein is a spectacular lookout mountain in the Tannheimer Tal above the village of Tannheim. A steep but otherwise easy path leads up from the south, making for a great half-day route. We save the steep path for the descent on this route. For the ascent, we choose a different, less frequented variant. We climb up steep meadows through pathless terrain towards Rappenschrofen and then cross over the Rappenschrofen ridge to the Einstein. The views are already fantastic along the way. On the Rappenschrofen ridge, we always have the summit in view as well as the path ahead. The view from the Einstein stretches from the Tannheimer Tal with its villages and the Haldensee over Aggenstein, Wertacher Hörnle, Gaishorn, and Kugelhorn. The pathless terrain and the narrow, demanding ridge are reserved for experienced hikers.
