2-day route from Rifugio Grauson to one of the highest hikeable peaks in the Alps.
The 3513-meter-high Punta Tersiva forms a standalone pyramid as the end of the green Vallone del Grauson. Since it is not visible from the settlement areas in the Aosta valley and Cogne valley, it is not as well known as the only slightly higher neighbor Monte Emilius. This isolation, however, is the charm of this mountain; at the ascent, you will meet at most a few locals, even though there are not many mountains over 3500 meters in the Alps that are hikeable. There are even extreme mountain bikers who ride down from the summit with their bikes! Endurance and familiarity with steep rubble are enough to conquer this mountain; in spring, you might need crampons or mountaineering irons for the ascent to Colle della Tersiva. The glacier, Ghiacciaio del Tessonet, has melted so far that you only have to walk on its lower edge briefly; the former glacier route is no longer used due to the danger of falling rocks.
