Predigerstuhl-Pfannock Round
This hike in the "Carinthian Nock Mountains Biosphere Reserve" shows the beauty of treeless hiking sections and also offers – besides two ponds – magnificent views.
For long sections of this hike, you will be guided by the Alpe-Adria-Trail (AAT), which stretches from the Pasterze to Muggia (near Trieste) via three countries showcasing natural beauty! From the AAT info stand northwest of the Erlacherhaus you can see shortly afterward to the north the Zunderwand and soon after the Nassbodensee, located at the eastern foot of the Große Rosennock. The AAT leads east of the nock to the Predigerstuhl - with magnificent views, especially to the southeast. Continuing on the AAT, after a short descent and ascent, we reach the Small and Large Pfannock, the highest point of the hike in the "Carinthian Biosphere Reserve". From now on, steadily downhill past cirque lakes, we cross the Arkersattel - from here you can already see the Erlacher Bockhütte. Upon reaching the Erlacherhaus we meet the AAT again.
Current information as of 11.8.2025:
The hiking path between the Small Pfannock and Arkersattel is closed - alternative: return the same way down to the Erlacher Bockscharte and then walk slightly downhill to the left to the Erlacher Bockhütte.
[4 alternatives and 5 breaks]

A visit to the Türkhaus and/or the Granatium (both have museum character) is recommended!
Pay attention to four shortcut options!

Safety information
Between Nassbodensee and Predigerstuhl there is a hiking path (approx. 150 m) that requires attention!
In the section: Erlacherhaus-Predigerstuhl there is no water extraction point!
Due to storms in July 2022, the section "Mill Path" is closed – it is therefore not described in detail.

SHORT DESCRIPTION:
WAYPOINTS: Erlacherhaus-Nassbodensee-Predigerstuhl-Erlacher Bockscharte-Kleiner Pfannock-Pfannock-Arkersattel-Erlacher Bockhütte-Erlacherhaus (11 km, 1636 m).
DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
1. Mobilizing exercises and introduction at the AAT info stand (1636 m). We walk northwest along the AAT and trail no. 170 – after crossing the Rossbach we leave 170 and take a path (shortcut) uphill – we reach trail no. 171 and again the AAT. After about 2 km we meet the path coming from the right (no. 13) – 1st short break, 2.6 km, 1963 m.
ALTERNATIVE 1: Follow trail no. 13 (part of the Predigerstuhl circular hike, no. NAT 15) to the right, southeast, along the Zunderwand, and wait at the Erlacher Bockhütte!
2. After about 800 m, slightly uphill, we reach along no. 13 (part of the Rosennock circular hike, no. NAT 14, and the AAT) the Nassbodensee (2nd longer break, 3.3 km, 2030 m).
3. We walk back about 150 m and at the fork go left, north, along no. 13 to the "Kalten Keller" or the beginning of the Zunderwand – we continue following no. 13 and arrive at the summit cross Predigerstuhl/Predigtstuhl (3rd break, 5.2 km, 2170 m).
4. We continue northeast on no. 13 – it leads down south of the Erlacher Bock Slope.
ALTERNATIVE 2: Choose trail no. 13 to the right, south, to the Erlacher Bockhütte and wait there!
5. On trail no. 14 we briefly head north to the Erlacher Bock Slope (attention! In the last third you can also go straight on a path to the pass!), to go steeply uphill towards Kleiner Pfannock (4th break, 7 km, 2065 m).
ALTERNATIVE 3: Hike to Pfannock (2254 m) – those not hiking extend the break until the return.
6. We continue on no. 14 downhill, walk northeast past the Pfannocksee and meet the St. Oswald Bach water path and alpine round – we now leave no. 14 and the AAT and go right southwest. We reach the Arkersattel, leave the water path round and go sharply angled – following trail no. 13 – towards the Erlacher Bockhütte (5th break, 9.1 km, 1921 m).
ALTERNATIVE 4: From the Arkersattel, walk up to the cross and back down again.
7. On the main hiking trail (HWW) towards Erlacherhaus heading south, after about 300 m we choose a path that leads us back to the HWW after about 800 m – we follow trail no. 122 to the right and after about 200 m reach the hiking start point, Erlacherhaus (11 km, 1636 m).
IF THE MILL PATH IS RESTORED:
ALTERNATIVE 5: The last 6.7 km to Kaning (mill path starting point) could be bridged from Erlacherhaus with transfer cars – waiting time at the starting point: approx. 2 hours!
ALTERNATIVE 6: Drive down by transfer cars to Winklerhütte and finish the Kneipp and mill path along the AAT or trail no. 177 – save approx. 1 hour!
8. We walk northwest past the AAT and trail no. 122 in the parking lot and keep right at a fork – after about 1.5 km we reach a crossing and after crossing the Rossbach, go left eastwards to Petodnighütte (6th break, 12.5 km, 1458 m).
9. We immediately turn right, south, along trail no. 177 to the Langlam huts and subsequently to Aichholzerhütte. The AAT leads sharply angled right downhill to the Rossbach; the Kneipp and mill trail begins – after about 2.2 km we reach the transfer cars (17.6 km, 920 m).
