From the hiking parking lot next to the campsite, head towards Nufels and then uphill into the forest following the 'old school path'. We decided to hike up through the cool Gallruth tunnel to the Gallruth Alm on the outbound trip due to the very warm weather. After a long break at the beautiful Alm, we descended via the steeper cattle path, which joins the ascent about halfway.

On the hike, you repeatedly get views toward the south into the Kaunertal valley up to the glacier or toward the north/west to Burg Berneck and further into the Oberinntal valley to Burg Laudeck.
This route, starting from the valley, requires moderate hiking fitness to enjoy it.
If the route is taken in the opposite direction, torches can be purchased at the Gallruth Alm for crossing the tunnel.
Going uphill required willpower for us to endure up to the upper hiking parking lot in warm weather. On this section of the route, a large part consists of forest road.
