The free-standing pyramid of the 3279 m high Pizzo Tambo is one of the striking peaks that you always see on the horizon during mountain routes. It is a border mountain in multiple ways: on the one hand, it lies on the border between Italy and Switzerland, on the other hand, the border between the Eastern and Western Alps runs over the Splügen Pass, which connects the two countries. Thanks to the high starting point at the Splügen Pass height, Pizzo Tambo attracts many day hikers from both countries. The easiest way leads over the east ridge (T4). Occasionally, a round route with the north ridge on the ascent is done, but this is more demanding (T5). The normal route is not officially marked, but often clear trail traces and many cairns can be found.
