Torrecilla translates to 'little tower'. But don’t worry, the way to the summit is somewhat steep, but no climbing is required. Only at the optional ascent of the striking rock formation Peñón de los Enamorados ('Rock of the Lovers') do you briefly need your hands. The view from Torrecilla on clear days stretches from the over 3000 m high Sierra Nevada to the Moroccan coast and Gibraltar. Botanical enthusiasts will also enjoy this route: Sierra de las Nieves has the largest population of the rare Abies pinsapo (Spanish fir) in all of Spain (24 km²). The Abies pinsapo grows only in three mountain regions in southern Spain (a total of 27 km²) and one isolated location in Morocco. Above the tree line, you encounter sage, rosemary, and juniper. The described hike follows marked trails. There are also alternatives to the double stretch, but these are much more adventurous.
