The Pico Gilbo is not the highest peak around the reservoir of Riaño, yet it dominates the landscape of the area with its pyramid-shaped summit and elongated rocky ridges. It is a fantastic viewpoint to look down onto the turquoise reservoir and the surrounding light limestone mountains. In this circular route, we take the small hamlet of Horcadas as the starting point and then cross the impressive mountain ridge from west to east. To reach the ridge, we have to work our way up through the rocky barrier interspersed with grass bands and gullies. The terrain here is technically uncomplicated but always sloping, exposed, and requires absolute surefootedness and fearlessness of heights, as well as good orientation skills. Further up, there are individual climbing sections to master up to difficulty grade II. Apart from the highest point of the ridge, we ascend two other peaks: Peña de la Paliella and Peña los Serrones. The ridge narrows more or less but remains exposed and leads
