Pic de Bure
Mountain hike to the space observatory on the Pic de Bure.
The Pic de Bure is the third highest mountain of the Dévoluy massif, after the Grande Tête de l'Obiou and the Grand Ferrand. Unlike these two sharp peaks, the Pic de Bure stands out for its broad, flat summit plateau. On it is the Observatoire de Bure, an astronomy and research station that houses one of the largest radio telescope facilities in the world. This station has also made Pic de Bure internationally known. The ascent of Pic de Bure is technically easy but long and very scree-heavy. The ascent from the south is only recommended on a cloudy day or very early in the morning!
