The overall approximately 60-kilometer circular hike through the western Zillertal Alps leads past six huts with distances from 3.5 to 13 kilometers with and without summit ascents. The respective routes are divided into walking times from 2.5 to 8 hours with varying levels of difficulty.

The recommended starting point is the valley end of the mountaineering village of Vals in the Wipptal. At the valley end is the Guesthouse Touristenrast, accessible on weekdays by public buses and on weekends by a hiking bus by phone reservation (+43 664 2322528). Over a total distance of 56 km with 4,230 m ascent and 4,230 m descent, you reach 6 mountain huts in a beautiful alpine landscape. The high route from Friesenberghaus to Geraer Hut is considered by Peter Habeler to be one of the most beautiful crossings in the Eastern Alps. It is no coincidence that large parts of this area have been under protection since 1991 as part of the High Mountain Nature Park Zillertal Alps. Experience the magnificent high alpine landscape on the main Alpine ridge, encounter marmots and chamois along the way — these can also be impressive highlights. And not to forget: the cozy huts. Hike in the footsteps of Peter Habeler and be inspired by the imposing Zillertal mountain world.

The ascent starts at Gh. Touristenrast and runs along the back of the Valser valley on a 2.5 km long alpine pasture path (No. 502) up to the valley station of the Geraer Hut material cableway. Through a beautiful stone pine forest, the gently ascending path winds over many switchbacks to the Ochsenhut, from there eastwards over high alpine pastures to the Geraer Hut at 2,324 m. (Ascent 980 m).

    Geraer Hut 2,324 m - Tuxerjochhaus 2,316 m:

Start heading north towards Steinernes Lamm (No. 527); a newly constructed section on this path leads over old glacier moraines through the front Höllwand and further to the Kleegrubenscharte. Friesenberghaus 2,477 m - Olperer Hut 2,389 m:

Past Friesenbergsee, steep ascent over switchbacks, a short section along the Berliner Höhenweg (No. 526), and gently descending to the Olperer Hut. (Walking time 2.5 hrs.)

    Olperer Hut 2,389 m - Pfitscherjochhaus 2,275 m:

On path No. 502, part of the Neumarkter round, it goes to Unterschrammachkar, 2,280 m, after a short ascent towards Ameiskopf 2,400 m, continuing over an old trail (No. 528) past glacial striations near Kastenschneid and below the Stamplkees to the Pfitscherjochhaus. (Walking time 3.5 hrs.)

    Pfitscherjochhaus 2,275 m - Landshuter/Europa Hut 2,693 m:

From Pfitscherjochhaus through a barren rocky landscape along the Landshuter Höhenweg (No. 528 or 3) heading west, the path was built between the 1st and 2nd World War and leads to Friedrichshöhe to the Landshuter/Europa Hut. (Walking time 3 hrs.)

    Landshuter/Europa Hut 2,693 m - Touristenrast 1,345 m:

From here it goes over the Geistbeckweg (No. 529) to Sumpfschartl 2,666 m and further over the long wall northwards to the inner Zeischalm to the parking lot Nockeralm in the valley end of the nature reserve Valsertal. (Walking time 4 hrs.)
