Peak of the Bernadeinwände and descent via Schöngänge
Hike from the Kreuzeckhaus to the highest point at the west end of the Bernadeinwände and descent over the Schöngänge via ferrata
Easy mountain hike with a steeper ascent from the lake (climbing difficulty I), which, however, requires significantly more mountain experience and sure-footedness due to the descent via the "Schöngänge" with moisture and snow residues on the short via ferrata section than the rest of the route.

Roadbook
From the Kreuzeckhaus, 1652 meters, the path starts slightly descending first towards the south, then turns west towards the Stuibenhütte. Almost level with the eastern end of the Bernadeienwände, a path branches off to the left, leading around the walls on their southern side to a small lake.
A later branch marked on old maps leads west across partly swampy alpine meadows and soon loses all traces of a path. Therefore, caution is advised here, and one should cross on a bright plateau northwestwards to the correct main path around the Bernadeienwände.
From the lake, go steeply and partly rocky uphill to the north. Turning west, follow the more gently ascending path to the col. There, a branch leads northeast to the nearby peak of the Bernadeienwände with the summit cross.
After the short descent from the summit back to the col, the return route over the Schöngänge is offered for experienced hikers who do not mind longer steel cable-secured descents – a descending route on a cable that must be used for safety. There is increased risk of slipping on the Schöngänge via ferrata when wet or with residual snow!
Those who cannot safely descend a steep via ferrata should return along the ascent route. At the end of the secured section, follow sporadic paths northwards. The way down is steep and sometimes slippery until a path is reached. The signpost points north towards the Kreuzeckhaus.
