The Augsburg High Trail is challenging even for experienced mountaineers, but it offers unforgettable views.

The high-altitude trail takes 6–10 hours to hike from the Augsburger Hütte to the Ansbacher Hütte. The difficulty level is slightly higher than yesterday’s ascent to the Parseierspitze. Current conditions are posted on the Augsburger Hut’s website—https://augsburgerhuette.jimdoweb.com/aktuelle-wegebedingungen/.

    Author’s recommendation

On the hike, there's often no way to refill your water supply. In general, you should set out very early so you have plenty of time.

    Safety information

At the start of the season, you can still expect hard snow in some shaded areas. After heavy snowfall and during the snowmelt, the smooth rock sections below the Stierlochkopf are covered with unpleasant powdery snow.

    Roadbook

We set out from the Augsburger Hütte and follow yesterday’s route through the Gasill Gorge to the Grinner Ferner; here we turn south and reach the Dawinkopf, which is already visible, without much difficulty. We continue on to the Dawinscharte, where there is an emergency descent route. We cross the north face of the Feuerkopf. This is the most difficult part of the high-altitude trail and is also objectively dangerous. Fine scree and more or less solid rock covered with scree require full concentration. In addition, hard snow may lie in the gullies at the beginning or end of the season.

At the Parseierscharte, you can reach the Roland-Ritter Bivouac in 2 minutes. We continue crossing on the south side below the Grießmuttekopf. Below the Stierlochkopf, we must once again make an unpleasant descent over rock covered with scree before we finally reach the Winterjoch without further difficulty and begin the final descent to the Ansbacher Hut, which has been visible for some time.
