Today we're heading to the Augsburger Hütte via the Spiehlerweg

After the hut, the trail leads past the idyllically situated Seewiseen lakes. Before reaching the middle Seewisee, the E5 hikers part ways with us, and it suddenly becomes rather secluded and quiet. On the Spiehlerweg, we reach the Patrolscharte. Here, we have to decide: either head directly to the Augsburger Hut via the Gatschkopf, or first climb the Parseier Spitze—the only 3,000-meter peak in the Lechtal Alps.

    Author’s recommendation

The Spiehlerweg is secured with several steel cables. If you find yourself reaching your personal limits here, you should skip the Parseierspitze and avoid the Augsburger Höhenweg.

    Safety information

There is a lot of loose rock, especially in the lower section of the Parseierspitze. You need to stay fully focused here, even on the descent. A helmet is required in any case.

    Roadbook

From the Memminger Hut, the trail initially climbs gently past the 3 Seewiseen lakes to the Wegscharte. The descent toward the Patrol Valley is partially secured. We cross the valley with almost no loss of elevation to the Parseierjoch along clearly visible trail marks. After another short, secured descent followed by a traverse, the ascent to the Patrolscharte begins.

To the left, the trail now climbs gently to the Gatschkopf and then continues to the Augsburger Hütte—recommended for those who want to take their time and enjoy the scenery.

If we decide to head for the Parseierspitze here, we descend to the right over boulder fields to the start of the route. The lower section, which has a lot of loose rock, is secured with steel cables. Higher up, the rock becomes more solid. The trail markers are perfectly adequate in this somewhat confusing terrain.

The descent follows the same route to the remains of the Grinner Glacier and then through the Gasill Gorge back to the hut.
