The crossing of the Nagelfluh chain is rightly considered one of the most beautiful ridge hikes on the German Alpine edge.

With Hochgrat, Rindalphorn, Stuiben and Steineberg, the best panoramic summits of the Allgäuer Voralpen are crossed on this wonderful undertaking, which however requires good fitness and surefootedness. Due to the length, the starting and ending points are the mountain stations of two cable cars.

    Author’s recommendation

For ridge enthusiasts there is a combo ticket for the Hochgratbahn ascent and Mittagbahn descent.

    Roadbook

From the mountain station, follow the ridge which falls steeply northwards towards the east (wire ropes). Over the first conglomerate rock, proceed to the summit of Hochgrat, which is the highest point of the entire route. Continue on a good mountain path, first gently, then a short steeper section down to the Brunnenauscharte saddle. On the other side, it initially goes somewhat steeper, then quite flat along a wide meadow ridge uphill, leading further to a small saddle and to the fork before the Rindalphorn. Here, you should not miss the short detour to the left (brief easy rocky terrain) to the summit at 1821 m.

War also von da her alles etwas matschig (besonders an steilen Wiesenabschnitten).
