Family-friendly route through the woods to the untouched and beautifully situated Lorenzalm and from there to the summit of Ottenspitze. This is the first higher elevation on the ridge between Vals and Schmirntal, and accordingly the view is beautiful.
From the Lorleswald parking lot, the path leads through the Muchnersiedlung, then over the forest road up into the woods. Soon a beautiful path (No. 66) starts here, which leads through spruce and larch groves up to the Lorenzalm. Upon reaching the alpine pasture, the forest clears, the cross of Ottenspitze is also visible in the distance. The summit is reached shortly after via the last switchbacks on the north side. A magnificent panoramic view over the Wipptal valley extending out to Innsbruck rewards the effort of the ascent. You can also admire the occasional edelweiss and possibly some chamois on the rocks around the summit. After having fully enjoyed the mountain atmosphere, the descent path first leads somewhat exposed to a small alpine hut directly below the summit. From there it goes in a wide curve through the alpine landscape further into the valley interior and then back to the starting point via another forest path (No. 67).
Author’s recommendation
Due to the location of the summit, this round is especially suitable as a sunset route. Those who want to experience the indescribable atmosphere of twilight in the mountains themselves can have a unique experience here.

Schmirner StadlSafety information
If you approach the summit from the south on the circular hike, a small exposed section has to be overcome shortly before the cross on the ridge. However, this can also be bypassed by descending briefly at the small hut below the summit and choosing the path coming from the north to the summit.
Tips and suggestions
The Lorenzalm is not serviced, but at the starting point of the route there is the "Schmirner Stadl".
Roadbook
From the parking lot, the route initially goes through the Muchnersiedlung uphill, then continues over the forest road into the woods towards Lorenzalm. After about 500 m on the forest road, a beautiful path with No. 66 from Jodok joins, which leads up through the forest from the northwest all the way to the summit. On the descent, first follow a somewhat exposed ridge briefly eastwards (towards the valley), before it goes quite steeply down in switchbacks to a rustic alpine hut. Past this hut, the path continues in a curve further towards the valley and gently descending to the end of a forest road and another hut. Here you practically turn around and follow the path with No. 67 down through the forest back to the Muchnersiedlung. Straight through the Muchnersiedlung then it goes back to the parking lot and the starting point of the route.
