On lonely paths to Rhinog Fawr and to dreamy lakes
From the parking lot/campsite at the eastern end of Lake Cwm Bychan, head south first through an idyllic little wood and then continue up the stone steps of the "Roman Steps" alongside the stream through gentle hilly countryside up to the transition to the high plateau. Continue on the path until it merges with a gravel road, where a detour to the waterfall Pistyll Gwyn about 500 m away is possible. Return from the waterfall to the gravel road and follow the path, later trail, into the cirque between Rhinog Fach and Rhinog Fawr. This trail then later leads down to the Nantcol farm. First, however, a narrow path branches off here to the north, through a wall breach and then over partly pathless first grassy, later stony/rocky terrain, up to Rhinog Fawr. The ascent path at the summit area is partly marked by cairns and finally leads across boulders on the summit ridge up to the concrete summit pillar. From here, in good weather, there is a fantastic view of the surrounding mountain
