The path ascends to the remains of the old reservoir of the former hut power plant. You follow the markings and large cairns further up the valley until the path to the Höllerscharte turns sharply left on a debris ridge. Here you continue pathless along the debris ridge until a rock ridge blocks your way. You go around it on the right and find yourself on the snow and ice field, which extends up to the pass.
Now stay close to the left edge of the snow, but outside the rockfall zone, which is clearly recognizable by the stones lying on the snow. At the end of the valley, you see two saddles separated by a small rock formation. The destination is the left saddle. The last ascent is over loose scree. As a group, stay close together so that any triggered stones cannot gain speed.
After about 90 minutes, you reach the saddle. On the other side, you look at the Steinschlagferner glacier. You must not go further here. A wide crevasse at the edge warns of the dangers of the glacier.
Depending on the snow conditions, you can adjust your route accordingly. Particularly in the descent, snowfields are easier to walk on. The terrain is clear, so you can find your own way.
