Niedere Tauern is located southeast of Salzburg. A quiet part of Austria where ski lifts have not yet replaced the rustling forests. You can wander for hours along the paths secured with steel cables and iron pins, with views of the steeply rising limestone mountains and quiet mountain lakes.

The route starts in the village of Haus at the “Schladminger Tauern Seilbahn” (820m) from where we take the cable car to the Krummholzhütte (1840m). From the hut we go via Rossfeldsattel, Moaralmsee and Filzscharte (2213m) to the Hans-Wödlhütte. Around the hut there are many mountain lakes. The route continues over the Neualmscharte (the “Robert-Höfersteig”) to the Preintalerhütte. From this hut we make a day trip to the Kieseck (2681m). Via the Greifenberg (2618m) we reach the Gollinghütte, the starting point for the ascent of the highest point, the Hochgolling (2862m). From the Hochgolling we descend to the Landawierseehütte. Via, among others, the Trockenbrotscharte (2237m) we reach the Keinprechthütte. We continue our route via the Duisitzkarhütte to the Ignaz-Mattishütte, where we also make a day trip including the Znachsattel, the Akarscharte (2315m) and via Ursprungalm (1604m) back to the Ignaz-Mattishütte.

On the last day we go up once more to almost 2000m before descending to Hochwurzen (Rohrmoos), near Schladming.
