We start from the parking lot either right through Brand or left towards Gruttau and follow the signs "Märchenwald". A path leads through the wild romantic stone labyrinth in the dense forest and after the small waterfall up to the Nesslauer Almstraße. We leave this after a few meters to the right and follow the forest road until the marked Salzalpensteig leads right into the steep forest slope. At a crossroads, turn right on the unmarked rooty path uphill to a small rock outcrop (with cross and rest bench) called Brandstein.
Back to the crossroads and straight ahead on an unmarked but clear path, which partly quite exposed crosses the steep south flank of the Reitstein and Kemeikopf. We merge into a hiking trail that leads briefly quite steeply up to the ridge. If you want to include the Kemeikopf, you have to climb right on an unmarked and finally rocky-steep little path to the insignificant summit with a tree carcass and book. Now westwards on the narrow path on the ridge – often exposed with a few short steep ascents and rocky passages – to the small exposed rock pinnacle with cross, book, and rest bench slightly left of the ridge. The highest point of the Nesslauer Schneid is reached from the back in a short left curve, somewhat exposed.
Now we descend in several short steep steps into the hollow at the upper end of the Nesslauer Graben and follow the marked hiking trail on the steepening eastern ridge of the Gröhrkopf. Its summit cross is located a little lower south on a small rock peak. To the Weißgrabenkopf, we follow a hardly recognizable path north into a hollow. A striking ridge rock is bypassed on the left (west) on a very narrow and exposed path. Behind it, narrow larch corridors lead up to the summit stele of the Weißgrabenkopf.
Back to the ridge rock and at a suitable place more or less pathless down the steep western flank to the visible hiking trail. We now follow this in light ups and downs through the entire western flank to the open meadows of the Haaralmschneid. On the earthy and steep normal path somewhat laboriously up to the summit cross of the Haaralmschneid with a rest bench.
On an unmarked path beyond the pasture fence, we descend the steep northern ridge in the high forest into a hollow and reach again over a simple rocky step the meadow summit of the Gröhrkopf. Down the eastern ridge into the hollow and along the rock wall of the Nesselauer Schneid down into the Nesslauer Graben. After the alm, it goes back along the gravel road (finally shortcutting near the Märchenwald) to the starting point.
