Monte Spilech is a secondary summit of the Becco di Filadonna near the Rifugio Casarota with great views. It can easily be taken along on the ascent (as we did).

Over the wooded southern flank to the Rifugio Casarota and in a wide right turn up to the open summit of Monte Spilech.

    Author’s recommendation

Due to the southern exposure and relatively low altitude, this tour can be done in early spring and even well into late fall.

    Roadbook

Opposite the Sindech bar, we hike uphill on a track to the right of a ditch. Shortly after bridging the ditch, the road narrows into the beautifully laid out hiking trail 442, which winds its way through the shady beech forest at a moderate gradient up to Rifugio Casaota. You pass a flat rest area with a carved tree sculpture and, further up, a shrine with benches. A short, rugged ascent leads to a ridge that leads directly up to the hut, to the right of which we cross the steep forest slope without gaining any significant height. At the first fork, stay left on path 442 towards Becco di Filadonna. Climb briefly, then leave the path to the right (signpost for Monte Spilech). Continue briefly flat in the forest, then cross a narrow and exposed path into a huge Erosin gully. After crossing the rockfall-prone scree gully, a fine forest path leads up a pleasant gradient through the southern flank to the open summit ridge. From the highest point, the view sweeps from the rugged rock faces of the Vigolana to Lago di Caldonazzo in Valsugana. The summit cross is slightly ahead on the narrow ridge to the west.

    Descend along the ascent.
