    Rifugio Venezia

    Roadbook

The Rifugio Venezia can be reached from the parking lot on the right via an alpine road. However, our hiking trail no. 471 passes on the left past the last houses and branches off after about 150m to the right over a meadow path into a stream gorge. After crossing the stream bridge, the path ascends moderately steeply over a long ridge on a beautiful shaded trail to the above-mentioned alpine road above the Casera di Rutorto. After a few meters on the alpine road, it branches off to the right and continues almost level along the rocky western flank of Monte Pena on a forest road. After a stream gorge, the road ends; a wide alpine path leads over several swampy stream sections to the Passo di Rutorto. If you continue 200m eastward into a hollow, the Rifugio Venezia is reached on a small hill.

At the Passo di Rutorto, the hiking trail to Monte Pena branches off to the right=south. It goes flat over a wide, swampy ridge past a weather station, finally gently descending to the mountain base (it is also possible to shorten the route here from the end of the forest road and walk pathless over swampy alpine meadows). Through narrow larch passages, the faintly marked path winds ever steeper up to the summit rocks. Above the larch zone, it ascends over grass mats and small rocky steps to the indicated northern ridge and rocky over it to the small summit notch. With light rock scrambling, the summit cross is reached in a few steps.

Descent along the ascent route (or for planned ascent of Monte Pelmo to the recommended Rifugio Venezia).
