Our route takes us to the area of Lago Maggiore. Monte Massone and the two peaks Monte Cerano and Poggio Croce belong to the Pennine Alps and are characterized by breathtaking views of Lakes Maggiore and Orta. The route is quite demanding: The path winds steeply uphill along the mountains and runs along the ridge. You should be sure-footed and not afraid of heights for the ridge path, otherwise there are no problems or tricky sections on the trail. Monte Cerano and Poggio Croce are still quite close to the starting point at Alpe Quaggione, while Monte Massone is further back and clearly towers above the other peaks. At Massone, trenches from the Linea Cadorna, a never-used defense line from the First World War, can be found.
