Medium-difficulty route that takes half a day to complete, and links the residential area of Manez to the summit cross along the south-west ridge of Monte Iron. The route is initially flat on a dirt road, then gradually rises in the last stretch to the summit. Generally accessible from spring to autumn, unless there is late snow.

A fairly easy tour that climbs from the wild Manez valley and runs along the south-west ridge of Mount Iron to reach its summit cross. The panorama from this elevation is very wide and its position as a ‘corner pillar’ between the Val d'Algone and the Busa di Tione di Trento make it an excellent vantage point over Bleggio, Lomaso, the Southern Brenta Group, Alta Val del Chiese, Busa di Tione and the Adamello - Presanella Group. A tour also suitable for families, given the not excessive altitude difference; assess the development well.

    Author’s recommendation

Bring a camera along, as the broad and charming panorama offers a privileged view of the Val d'Algone, the 'Busa' of Tione di Trento, Bleggio, Lomaso, the southern Brenta Mountain Range, the upper Valle del Chiese and the Adamello-Presanella Mountain Range.

    Tips and suggestions

As the route is not particularly exposed to the sun except for the last short section, it can be walked in any season. Avoid late morning or early afternoon on summer days.

    Roadbook

Take the straight road into Val di Manez, following the Sat Trail 350 sign. Walk about one kilometre until you come to a small bridge on the right that crosses the Rio Manez. Cross the bridge and continue along the dirt road that initially gains a slight altitude, and then, with a long, almost flat traverse, reaches the beginning of the south-west ridge of Monte Iron, just above the beautiful and verdant Ancis (which can be reached by walking slightly downhill, on a trail road). Where the road ends, the trail leading to the summit begins on the left. The trail follows evenly the long and easy ridge-crest that ends at the summit cross of Monte Iron (1864 m). At first, the uphill stretch is a little steep and tiring in the forest, then, past the halfway point, it becomes less steep and the conifers give way to lower vegetation and then to grass in the final part. Return along the route you followed on the way up.
