From Sella Nevea, take a narrow, steep road by car that ends at the Pecol Alm. With the imposing Montasch massif in sight, take the Findenegg path to the summit. The descent first follows the ridge to the iron ladder and then back to the Pecol Alm.

    Author’s recommendation

On the descent, you can choose the junction towards Brazza Hut at about 1800m and then reach the parking lot on the Pecol Alm from this hut.

    Safety information

A helmet is recommended for climbing in the Findenegg Gorge due to rockfall caused by climbers ahead. For the descent via the iron ladder, it is advisable to use a via ferrata set. There may also be longer waiting times during the descent on the ladder.

    Roadbook

From the parking lot on the Pecol Alm, first walk over pasture areas, choosing the left path, in steep hairpin bends over green alpine meadows towards Forca dei Disteis. Then there is some easy climbing towards Torre Disteis and further along the Findenegg band until shortly before the Suringar bivouac, which is reached after about 2.5 hours. About 5 minutes before reaching the bivouac, turn right into the Findenegg Gorge, where stimulating climbing (grade 1 and 2) leads to the summit ridge. Caution: There is a significant danger of falling rocks from climbers ahead. After a short rise, the summit of Montasch is reached after another hour, rewarded with a magnificent view into the Seisera Valley to the north. To the right, the Wischberg and the Nabois Grande in front of it can be seen. The path continues along the exposed summit ridge eastwards to the large iron ladder (Scala Pipan) over which you descend again towards Pecol Alm. A via ferrata set is recommended for descending the iron ladder. A scree hollow reached after about half an hour can be excellently used for a quick descent at about 2000m. Then return to the Pecol Alm and further to the parking lot as on the ascent. Duration of the descent about 2 hours.
