The route described here avoids the still rockfall-prone area on the northwest side of Mont Granier. The summit lies outside the danger zone, but the summit cross standing on the northwest edge should no longer be visited. The better view of Chambéry and Lac du Bourget is from the cross, but even staying before the barrier, there is an incredible view downwards. The ascent is partly steep and scree-covered but never exposed (T3). Only at Pas des Barres is there a steep but cable-protected climbing section. The descent leads through the cave entrance of Balme à Collomb (or Collon), which forms a well over 30 km long cave network beneath Mont Granier. In 1988, prehistoric skeletons of over 1,000 cave bears were found in the cave. With some luck, you can also admire the not particularly shy ibex family nearby. A medium-length route with many highlights!
