Challenging and scenic mountain route to the Marchspitze, one of the most beautifully shaped summits of the Allgäu Alps

The mountain route leads from Elbigenalp to the Marchspitze, the highest summit of the Hornbach chain in the Allgäu Alps. Along the way, we also climb the neighboring summit of the Hermannskarspitze. At first, the route takes us through wooded areas and over a wire-cable secured rock passage. Gradually the terrain becomes rockier and lush green dwarf pine fields line our path up to the foot of Hermannskarspitze and Marchspitze. Climbing both summits is demanding and requires considerable mountaineering skills (climbing sections up to difficulty grade II).One is rewarded at the summit with fascinating views over what are probably the wildest corners of the Allgäu Alps. The views of the Hochvogel, Krottenkopf, Hermannskarsee, and the very special layering of the Hornbach chain are particularly impressive. Additionally, there is a chance to be completely alone during the ascent and on the summits because the two mountains are difficult to reach, located deep in the mountains, and their
