Ascent: We begin our ascent at the bridge over the Ötztaler Arche, behind the spa and the Längenfeld campsite. It goes up to the Pest Chapel and further along the forest road towards Hauersee and Hauersee Hut (Attention: the path to Hauerkogel leads only onto it and cannot be left later!). In a left bend, we turn right and follow the soon narrowing trail heading west. It goes through dense forest and under rock walls, sometimes steep, sometimes rather moderate, and after a short time we cross a forest road again.
After numerous switchbacks and a steep incline, the path turns into the Hauertal and takes us at a pleasant gradient under the walls of the Hoher Eggen. Here it gets a little steeper again briefly and we meet the branch off to the managed Innerbergalm. But we continue straight ahead and follow the path further to the Hauersee Hut.
On its east side, it goes around Hauersee and into a steep scree slope about 350m high, which we arduously climb in many switchbacks. Between rugged rock spikes, we reach the end of the slope and can now look at our goal.
On a well-marked path, it goes through the scree bed of the former glacier and with footholds and wire ropes onto the summit structure. Over polished granite and loose blocks, we ascend towards the summit. The last 50m are overcome with easy climbing, partially with the help of wire rope protections, and shortly after, we stand on the summit.
