Nice small cozy route with several alternative options.
I did this route as a little prelude to the vacation from Hintersee in Ramsau, through Klausbachtal and over Hirschbichl.
Alternatively, starting points in Weißbach near Lofer (4 hrs/7.4 km/984m), St. Martin near Lofer (4.5 hrs/10.4 km/825m) or from Pürzelbach, above Weißbach (3 hrs/7.1 km/703m) are also possible. The times refer only to the ascent and are calculated by Outdooractive.
Those who want it even more leisurely or who already know Klausbachtal can also take the bus to Hirschbichl (6 km/350m) and start from there, connecting the tour, for example, with the Kammerlingalm.
Because I wanted it very leisurely (and already knew Klausbachtal inside and out ;) ), I took the bus to Hirschbichl and finished by walking down Klausbachtal.
From up here, you have a wonderful view of the south side of the Reiteralpe, the Hocheis massif, Kammerlingalm, Seehorn, Großer Hundstod, Hochkranz, Leoganger and Loferer Steinberge, Steinplatte (this is just a selection of the mountains in the nearby area).
Those who choose Klausbachtal can pass via Bindalm here and can also view the consequences of the massive rockslide of 1999 further down, when 250,000 cubic meters of rock broke away from the summit of the small Mühlsturzhorn.
Author’s recommendation
Places to eat and drink:
Bindalm in the Klausbachtal (very nicely located with a great view of the Mühlsturzhörner)
Gasthof Hirschbichl
Litzalm
During the hike in the Klausbachtal, also calmly look up at the sky and pay attention to "unusual" bird calls... because the eagle nests here.
You can cool your feet in the Klausbach or in Hintersee. But both are very cold. Alternatively, you can also end the day with an ice cream on a pedal or row boat tour on the lake. At Cafe Gelfart (at the very end of the lake [boat dock]) they also offer ice cream in homemade waffles.
At Gasthof Aunzinger (not far from the parking lot), there is an excellent roast pork from the wood oven.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Safety information
The path is continuously wide developed (state road, forest road, wide paths).
Only the last section, the path to the summit, is a trail that requires sure-footedness.
A short section (approx. 20-30m) is very well secured with ropes but requires the use of hands.
In my opinion, being free from dizziness is not absolutely necessary.
Walkable with children who already have some experience on narrow paths/trails.
Tips and suggestions
Please observe the rules in the National Park and in the Weißbach Nature Park!Roadbook
We either take the bus or the car to the parking lot directly at the information center of the National Park in the Klausbachtal. With a guest card, the daily fee is a manageable 2.50 euros.
To avoid hiking up the Klausbachtal again, I took the bus this time (one way to Hirschbichl costs 5.20 euros). This saves about 6 km and 350 m elevation gain. From Hirschbichl, you can take two routes. One is via the well-developed Nordalpenweg (forest road) and the other is the somewhat steeper direct path to the Litzalm. I followed the forest road. The time indicated on the yellow signposts can be safely ignored. Instead of the stated hour, I took 20 minutes. At the Litzalm, you can take a short break or continue directly along the forest road. Shortly after the alpine pasture, the forest road turns right uphill. We follow this path towards Litzkogel. It leads around a hill to a gate where the trail to Litzkogel branches off to the right.
From here, it goes on a narrow path first through a light mountain forest, then along a cliff to a short secured section (with nails and a wire rope), before going through a dwarf pine section once around the summit to the peak on the other side.
From there, I returned the same way towards Hirschbichl and then on foot through the Klausbachtal over good, wide paths and a section of state road back to Hintersee.
Public transport
Public-transport-friendly
Nearest train station is Berchtesgaden, from there a bus connection to Hintersee.
From there, possibly the alpine experience bus to Hirschbichl or one of the intermediate stops.
Directions
Follow the signs to Hintersee from the German Alpine Road or from Ramsau. Pass the lake there and continue into the dead end to the National Park information center. There is extensive (paid) parking available here.Parking
Parking lot directly at the gate at the information center Klausbachtal of the Berchtesgaden National ParkCoordinates
Author’s map recommendations
I used the Kompass hiking map 794 (ISBN 978-3-85026-719-9).
However, there is a printing error here. The Litzkogel is erroneously labeled as Kühkranz (1811m). The real Kühkranz is actually nearby, a bit south, east of Hochkranz (1953m). The Litzkogel is 1625m high.
