From the parking lot on Karwendelstraße, the path leads via the Maria-Anna-Weg to Hohenburg, a historic site first mentioned in documents around 1100. The medieval fortress has mostly disappeared except for a few sparse wall remains; in its place, a new castle was built in the 18th century, which today houses a secondary school and a grammar school. From Hohenburg, hike gently uphill on a forest road through the Hirschbachtal to the Hirschbachsattel. At the saddle, turn left towards "Fockenstein - Aueralm", first through the forest, then over a raised bog to the Aueralm (operated, no rest day on Sundays). From there, take a wide path down through the Söllbachtal to Bad Wiessee. From Wiessee, return by bus from the post office via Bad Tölz to Lenggries or by boat to Tegernsee and by train via Schaftlach to Lenggries (hourly train). Upon arriving in Tegernsee, be sure to visit the well-known Bräustüberl.
