Taillefer stands somewhat in the shadow of all the 3000-meter peaks of the Écrins massif in terms of height. Measured by prominence, however, the mountain is the number 2 in the entire Dauphiné Alps after the Barre des Écrins. The view from this excellent viewpoint extends on a clear day from Mont Blanc to Grenoble. The ascent, unlike most neighboring peaks in the Écrins Massif, is manageable for experienced mountain hikers (grade T4-).
