Long circular route on the highest mountain of Albania and North Macedonia (T2).
Korab is the highest mountain of two countries, Albania and North Macedonia. Accordingly, there are two names for the mountain: In Albania, it is called Maja e Korabit, in Macedonian Golem Korab (Голем Кораб). The mountain has two very contrasting sides: to the west, the rock walls drop steeply, to the east, Korab presents as a grassy dome. Both the ascent from the Albanian side (Radomirë) and the Macedonian side (Strezimir) require no alpinistic skills, only good endurance, as the climbs are long. The ascent from Albania has, in addition to the fully asphalted access to the starting point, the advantage of allowing a circular route. The hiking trails are marked in red-white-red following the alpine model and are largely easy to recognize. The route from Strezimir and the shorter ascent from Albania are well frequented; the longer route across the Gryka e Panairit high plateau and the Fusha e Korabit high valley is less often used.
