The 2865-meter-high summit of Kolbenspitze can only be reached with a bit of effort, but it rewards this with a magnificent panorama.
The starting point for this fairly challenging mountain route is the parking lot at Karlegger-Hof above Ulfas. The path to Kolbenspitze is well signposted and marked with No. 2 (on some maps still with 3a). It goes several hundred meters flat on a paved road towards Ulfas-Alm and then turns right through dense forest, initially ascending slightly up to the alpine pastures at Saldernbach. At about 2000 meters, a trail leads left to Obere Ulfas-Alm. However, we follow the signpost to Kolbenspitze. Now it becomes increasingly steeper, the tussocks become rarer and the path slowly takes on an alpine character. At the top, the so-called “Stoanmandl” (also marked on maps) is already visible. But it is not reached as quickly as one might believe. Only at 2600 meters above sea level can it be “greeted” and shows hikers the route options. No. 3 now points to Kolbenspitze.
