First, you go down the Kaiserbach Valley to Griesenau. From Griesenau, follow the road towards Gasteig and shortly thereafter pass the Teufelskapelle – a place full of legends. After the inn "Altmühl," you hike through an enchanting mixed forest until you reach an idyllic alpine plateau after about two hours, where genuine alpine delicacies await you: The Stubenalm. It is known for the mountain cheese from the alpine dairy and the numerous alpine pigs found here in summer. You shouldn’t miss having cheese or bacon bread here. TIP: Mountain cheese and fresh bacon are also available to take away. Empty water bottles are refilled at the fountain with fresh spring water for the onward journey. Not far from the Stubenalm, two viewpoints with memorial crosses invite you to pause and let your gaze wander from the Wilder Kaiser to the Bavarian Kampenwand. Behind the Stubenalm, you first follow the forest path briefly uphill and then downhill to a well-signposted trail towards "Sprissleralm." Upon reaching the unattended alpine pasture (after about 3h 30min), a short ascent past the hunting lodge leads to a particularly scenic memorial cross. While making an entry in the summit register, you can let your thoughts wander, accompanied by the breathtaking panorama of the Wilder Kaiser.
Approximately halfway through the hike, you’ll come to a mystical and historically significant spot: the "Teufelsgasse," a narrow labyrinth surrounded by dark rocks. According to legend, it was the Devil himself who carved this path into stone so that sinful souls would get lost. During wartime turmoil, soldiers stationed at Prostkogel found shelter in the "Teufelsgasse." The rocks bear the marks left by soldiers, and today hikers and lovers carve their initials into the stone. At the end of the half-hour journey through the Devil’s embrace, two more viewpoints offer worthwhile rest stops: The Teufelskanzel and the protected Teufelsthron below, with views of the Kitzbühel Horn. You continue to hike over idyllic alpine meadows to the Prostalm located on a scenic plateau (after approx. 4h 30min).
You reward yourself for the altitude gained with a break on the sun terrace – simply wonderful! (Closed on Mondays). Refreshed, a short detour to the Prostkogel is even more enjoyable. Here, too, you feel briefly transported back to the past: The WWII-era flight watch is definitely worth a photo. The remaining four kilometers to Erpfendorf go steadily downhill. You follow a trail to the "Strübelalm," then walk down the narrow forest road into the valley. Upon reaching the hamlet of Weng, you walk along the road to the Achen bridge. Then turn right and enjoy the last meters of the stage along the Ache River. At the Steinbacher Dämmstoffe company, the hike turns right off the Achendamm. From there, you reach the center of Erpfendorf after around seven hours – the destination of the third stage.
