The route in the Lechtal Alps of Tyrol leads us to the highest peak of the Liegfeist group. The Knittelkarspitze is a striking rocky mountain that should only be tackled by experienced mountaineers. The ascent from Kelmen via the Kelmer Jöchl is steep, partly exposed, and secured with wire ropes in some places. Surefootedness and a head for heights are absolutely necessary. The path is consistently well marked and classified as “black,” meaning difficult. From the summit cross, there is a fantastic view over the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps, so it is definitely worth taking a longer break here to enjoy the view. Although the Knittelkarspitze is no longer a secret tip, it is still far from an overcrowded summit, so you usually only have to share the peace and solitude of the mountains with a few like-minded people.
