The Knappnock is the local mountain directly above the village of Mühlwald; it is accessible from the village center and recommended as a detour on an extensive circular hiking trail.
As an alternative, the ascent with an e-bike (approximately 800 meters elevation gain) or mountain bike is possible, and the summit climb takes only about 45 minutes on foot.
Author’s recommendation
The ascent with the e-bike to Obermairalm is recommended. Starting point: bridge on the main road, near the company ASCO
The Wengsee, with its special charm, surrounded by dense forest on all sides, framed by soft shoreline grass, shimmers in various mysterious colors.

In the village center of Mühlwald, at the bus stop "Mühlwald Dorf" near the "Hotel Mühlwald," the circular route begins. Trail number 1 leads over a partly steep ascent in a little more than 2 hours and about 800 meters of elevation gain up to the Putzen Alm. After an additional 170 meters of elevation and another three quarters of an hour of walking time, the summit of Knappnock is reached.
On the descent, now on trail number 2, you reach Obermairalm.
From here, a descent on trail number 2 into the valley is already possible.
However, it is recommended to continue on trail number 2A to the Wengsee and descend into the valley via the Wengalm on trail number 66 back to the starting point.
