From the parking lot, we first head towards the Almgasthof Baumschlagreith and stay on the road. After a few meters, a road branches off to the left, which we follow, following the signposts towards Türkenkarscharte. After a few minutes, we leave the road and continue ascending via a forest path, which shortly afterwards crosses the former ski slope. Mostly only moderately steep, the path leads through the forest over the forest path, alpine meadows, or partly over cart tracks. Finally, after a total of 40-45 minutes of walking, we had reached Schafferreith.
We immediately turned our back on it and continued on our way – up a steep meadow over the former ski slope. After a few minutes, we crossed a forest road. In theory, one could stay on this forest road, but we chose shortcuts through the forest. Five times, we crossed the forest road before it went partly steeper again into the forest. Roots, soil, and rocks alternate, but it's not difficult. We pass some marked spots called Schreiad'n Mau, Opferstock, and Tragada Stoa, whereby at the latter the path forks – you can either go up along a fence on the left, or alternatively go straight ahead, rather flatter, past a small waterfall. For the ascent, we decided on the first variant and walked over partly very steep and very slippery terrain to a larch forest basin. This had to be crossed until we reached the extensive alpine area of Bärenalm. Overall, we were on the way for one hour and 50 minutes.
Past the idyllic first hut, it continued without effort towards Türkenkarscharte – initially over the alpine meadows, finally along a beautiful forest path. On our left side, there is already a wonderful view of our day's destination. After another 20 minutes, the notch was reached. Although Kleine Scheibe is not signposted, the path is very clearly visible – you can either approach Kleine Scheibe on the left or right side of the fence; both paths rejoin after a few minutes. Between the dwarf pines, we follow the path until we reach a very clearly visible junction to the right, marked by a cairn. A steep meadow and a short dwarf pine path now separate us from the summit with the beautiful cross and the breathtaking view of the Tote Gebirge, which we reached after a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes – in front of us Spitzmauer and Großer Priel, behind us the Schrocken and Hochmölbing, furthermore directly in front of us lies the Hirscheck.
The descent to the Bärenalm follows the ascent route; after the lower hut, however, we do not turn right but continue straight ahead. It goes steeply and partly slippery down to the Peterhoferalm, then over a short, very muddy path section back into the forest. At Tragadan Stoa, we meet our ascent path again, which we follow back to the parking lot.
