No official hiking trail! An obstacle- and tension-rich route without signposts and mostly without trail markings. Surefootedness and a head for heights are absolute prerequisites.
For those with little mountain experience, a mountain guide is recommended.
The AV guide Allgäu says:
An obstacle-rich ridge hike in rough terrain with rockfaces. Only experienced mountaineers who dare can enjoy it a lot.

From Pfronten-Ried station, go through the districts Heitlern and Dorf, following the Milchhäusle signpost. Slightly below it, at the large turning area, an inconspicuous path branches off into the bushes - here begins the partly unmarked Kienberg route, later the steep trail through the forest is marked with individual red dots. Shortly before the Pfrontner Berg viewpoint at 1220m, adorned with a cross, there is a rope-secured climbing section to be mastered. A well-deserved first drinking break is then due. Then continue a few minutes uphill to the first summit.
Now the ridge trail of the long Kienberg crossing begins. After a short descent, there is an unmarked return option to Milchhäusle on the left. Those continuing follow the exposed ridge with constant ups and downs to the Vorderer Kienberg at 1384m. Here a lunch break with a view of the Allgäu mountains is recommended.
Afterwards, the trail continues northwest in a somewhat confusing manner downhill to Krenge-Grund at 1270m. From here, an also unmarked descent south to the Fallmühle would be possible. However, those wanting to do the entire ridge continue ascending in about 1.5 hours via natural paths to the main summit Kienberg at 1452m.
The descent follows a storm-battered path down to the so-called Himmelreich at 1205m. Here turn right onto the forest road Kesseweg, which leads to the Vils river. Along the river, the trail gently returns to Pfronten.
