Kenzenhütte (1,294 HM) - Trail heading south toward Hochplatte/Geiselsteinsattel - at the first fork, take the path toward Geiselstein/Kenzensattel - Kenzensattel - Detour to Kenzenkopf (1,745 HM) - Gumpenkar - Geiselsteinsattel (1,720 HM) - Bockstallsee in the Lobental Valley - Wankerfleck Chapel = Kenzenbus stop for Halblech
Take the Kenzenbus from the free parking lot and purchase a round-trip ticket to the Kenzenhütte. Start heading south and follow the sign for Hochplatte/Geiselsteinsattel. At the first fork, head toward Geiselstein/Kenzensattel and cross a rocky ledge over which the Kenzen Waterfall plunges. We continue along the path until we reach the trail leading up to the Kenzensattel. Below the north faces of the Hochplatte and with a view of the limestone cliffs of the Geiselstein, we can marvel at a magnificent panorama. As an option, you can hike about 100 HM uphill to the Kenzenkopf for a beautiful panoramic view. From the Kenzensattel, we follow the trail into the Gumpenkar, where we keep to the right at a fork and follow the path leading directly toward the Geiselstein until we reach the saddle. After a break, the trail descends in steep switchbacks toward the west; at a fork, we turn right again toward the northeast and then descend steeply through the forest, which features some old and striking sycamore maples. We come to a dirt road and walk along the Gumpenbach stream to the valley floor known as Wankenfleck. After crossing the stream and passing the Bockstallsee, we walk across a meadow to the chapel, where the hiking parking lot and the bus stop are located.
